ONE SIZE THREE BOATS
Michael Schmidt’s YYachts shipyard started it all with the 80-foot Y8 project.
Developed to emphasize ‘‘the art of simplicity without austerity” in the Y8 design, the shipyard wanted to engineer all the necessary features to sail fast and comfortable at the same time.
A team of experts put their fingers on what was necessary and what was not to reach that goal.
Names such as Lorenzo Argento of Brenta Yacht Design, and for the interior design Sir David Chipperfield and Design Unlimited did leave their mark, providing so far three distinct versions: DC, SRD and the new SRD+.
As with all Y Yachts, the Y8 has resulted in the development of a whole range of ideas to help yacht owners ”keep it simple” and enjoy sailing.
Each Y yachts model is created to be intuitive so that you can do just what you want from a yacht: have fun and enjoy sailing!
Scrupulous selection and careful positioning of deck fittings and equipment make it possible to start using and manoeuvring the Y8 in just a few simple steps.
Despite Y8’s impressive size, a light breeze is enough to get the boat clipping along, thanks to fast lines of Lorenzo Argento at Studio Brenta.

Y8 SRD (SEMI-RAISED DECK)
Years of sailing experience earned interior designer Mark Tucker, owner of Design Unlimited, the opportunity to create a classic, warm and inviting interior for the Y8 SRD.
His goal was to draw a yacht that could be sailed in great comfort by a family without a professional crew.
(A PLUS IN THE Y8 RANGE)
The new Y8 SRD+ is currently under construction and due for a planned launch in 2021.
Drawing on the experience gathered from previously unveiled Y8s, the boatyard has worked with the future owners to further develop her design.
- The new Y8 SRD+ now presents a fully-integrated bowsprit, for more sail area and safer anchor stowage.
- An enlarged, flat cockpit on the deck same level offering cosy U-shaped lounge area.
- Below deck, the aft area provides even more space for your ideas.
The interior design remains fully customizable. Whether you want a full-beam master stateroom, multiple guest cabins or the crew area with galley, the new Y8 is a true PLUS.
YOUR Y YACHTS / YOUR LAYOUT
An ideal layout, if you want maximum privacy, undisturbed by the crew, provides for two truly separate living areas below deck with the staff accommodation, the navigation area and galley set up in the stern.
Two different solutions for the deck layout, a variable headrooms and cabins and your choice of interior fittings in all areas, will make the Y8 as individual as her future owner.
