ANTARES III is a remarkable 30-meter composite performance sloop built by Yachting Developments in New Zealand and officially launched in Auckland in May 2011. The exterior design and naval architecture were crafted by Dixon Yacht Design, prioritising comfort for world cruising and ensuring self-sufficiency for extended periods
A towering 42.7-metre carbon-fibre rig, complemented by EC6 continuous carbon rigging and a Southern Furl boom, gives ANTARES III an impressive sail area of 4,876 square feet when sailing upwind.
Rhodes Young envisioned Antares with an open-plan interior. The raised salon offers superb all-round visibility, while large windows facilitate interaction with guests on deck. Closely connected, the upper and lower saloons create a spacious living space that fosters an airy atmosphere.
Accommodation includes three guest cabins, with a full-beam owner’s suite at the stern offering private deck access. The other two cabins are a double and a twin with a third bed. There is also space for four crew members forward of the galley and crew mess.
Antares III adheres to the rigorous standards set by Germanischer Lloyd and the MCA classification, ensuring exceptional strength despite her light construction. Utilising advanced composite materials, Antares III is approximately 25-30% lighter than traditional aluminium yachts. The composite hull is constructed with post-cured epoxy Eglass/Carbon/Kevlar, reinforced with high-strength foam sandwich technology. A Kevlar outer skin enhances impact resistance.
